You should buy your books - study at home - do your homework Cost about $40 to $45 However, we STRONGLY encourage our students to buy the books so they can write in them and study at home [Show and pass around book sample] - show that it’s really 2 books and a CD These are some of the books used in our classes. They cost about $40 to $45

When you finish class, you will receive a certificate !!!

Problem with work, childcare, vacation, travel or visa… best to not take these classes now more classes in the future may leave now or at the break Our program may not be best for you at this time. Please give this opportunity to another student. We will have more classes in the future. You may leave now or at the break

Today/Tonight ‘Tests’ 2 listening tests and a very short writing test to help us determine your level and the right class for you! No one passes!! No one fails!! Do your best!! There are six levels of English class - very high, very low and some in the middle. We will give tests to help us determine your level so that we know how to best help you And it is okay if you don’t finish or do not answer all of the questions. No need to guess. The first test is listening test. Then there is a very short writing test. Then another listening test. Some of you will take that test in this room. Some of you may go to another room for that test. Remember the test will help us help you with the right class level Do your best! No need to cheat or guess!

Next Steps after taking tests green postcard= Come to class yellow postcard= Waitlisted blue postcard= tutor with the Literacy Council another program (e.g. Montgomery College) Some of you will be sent an email, or receive a telephone call or receive a green postcard [show green sample] to let you know to report to class.

VERY IMPORTANT!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! If you do not come to the first 2 classes, you will lose your place (“seat”). BUT if you receive a green postcard BUT do not come to the first 2 classes, BOTH CLASSES, you will lose your seat or place in the class. We will contact others to become students in the class. [repeat this point]
