Youth Apprenticeships

What is a youth apprenticeship? Take courses related to a field you wish to go into. Work for an employer in the same field. Receive credit for the job as if it was one of your elective courses. (0.5 credit)

Requirements? You must maintain high attendance in both school and your apprenticeship. (# of days a student can miss depend on the specific employer, but expectations are high for all.) You must complete 2 related courses before or during the program. You must complete 450 hours at your apprenticeship. At the end of the program, you must show proficiency in skills related to the field.

Employers Currently Hosting Students

If you are interested in working with one of these employers, speak to your counselor or contact the YA Coordinator. You will need to apply and interview like any other job. Applications are available starting in February for most positions.

Other options You may already be working for a company which aligns with your career goals, and may count as a Youth Apprenticeship placement. To pursue this: 1) Speak to your counselor and ensure you are enrolled in related coursework. 2) Contact the YA Coordinator (Drew Seveland), who will set up a meeting with your employer to see if the employer will be willing to participate. 3) Ask the teacher of one of your related courses to be your mentor for the program. (If he or she declines, tell the YA Coordinator that you are in need of a mentor.)
