Basic Essay Structure Introduction Thesis Body paragraph 1 Body paragraph 2 Body paragraph 3 Conclusion

Informative / Explanatory Thesis Statement States the main idea of the essay Is the LAST sentence in your introduction and the FIRST sentence in your conclusion. The thesis must… Name the main topic of the essay Name the most important idea readers will learn from your article.

Examples Because of their strong individual players and creative defensive schemes, the Seahawks are still the most dominant team in the NFL. To protect themselves against identity theft, consumers should understand how to guard their personal information.

What details belong in an introductory paragraph about a disease? One sentence about symptoms. One sentence about causes. One sentence about cures. Thesis Statement (last sentence) – What is the most important idea readers will take away from your article? Common Core State Standard W 7.2a “Introduce a topic clearly, previewing what is to follow.”

Autotractosis Causes Symptoms Cures Finish with the most important thing you want readers to know about your disease. Autotractosis is a unique disease caused by unknown factors, however, people living in areas with more technology seem to be at greater risk. The name is derived from the roots “auto” meaning self and “tract” meaning to pull and it relates to the most common symptom: an individual’s willful withdrawal from human interaction. Individuals born after 1984 are at a higher risk, and adolescents in this population are at an increased risk of contracting this disease. Although Autotractosis is becoming more common, some simple lifestyle choices can reduce your risk.

Concluding Section The concluding section (or conclusion) is the final part of your paper and should do the following: Support the previous information Restate the thesis/main idea Ideas for writing the conclusion: Refer back to the introduction Give a final idea or example Ask a question or give a comment that will keep readers thinking Give a final meaning, importance, or purpose for the paper: Why does it matter?

Concluding Section Example Gloria is considered a superstar in the world of music and has won seven Grammys. She has also received the Ellis Island Congressional Medal of Honor, a great achievement for someone who has become a U.S. citizen. Through her music, she shattered cultural boundaries.

Concluding Section Example Babe Ruth’s baseball stats hide the fact that his young life was so hard. Babe wanted it this way; he never wanted people to feel sorry for him. He wanted to be judged by his talents and successes. By overcoming childhood poverty and rebellion, he went on to be one of the best baseball players of all time.

Concluding Section Example Along with many other Jews of her day, Anne Frank experienced horrors that many people today could never imagine. By reading her diary, we can see, feel, and hear only some of the hardships and struggles she faced – moments she continually sought to overcome. Even though she faced both the normal challenges of being a teenager and the unfair hatred of the Nazis, her diary reveals a spirit of perseverance.

Introduction Autotractosis is a unique disease caused by unknown factors, however, people living in areas with more technology seem to be at greater risk. Conclusion As you can see, Autotractosis may sound scary, but it’s easy to avoid by maintaining a healthy balance between technology and real life. It’s important for young people to understand the risks associated with technology, and Autotractosis is only one of many negative outcomes due to overusing technology. Like it or not, human interaction is an important aspect to all-around health and wellness. Individuals who commit to a balance between technology and reality will not only avoid Autotractosis, but they will lead happier, healthier lives.
