Primary 6 and Miss Monaghan First day of school selfie!

Class Dojo *Primary 6 made a Class Charter at the start of the school session. We agreed on the rules, consequences and rewards we needed in our classroom to help us learn and reach our full potential. *This will be linked to house points and dojo points. The children will be able to spend their hard earned ‘dojo cash’ at the Dojo Shop every Friday.

Forest Schools *This term, primary 6’s topic will be ‘Forest Schools’. Throughout this topic, we will have the opportunity to work with Renfrewshire’s Environmental and Restoration Group to achieve the John Muir Award at Discoverer Level. The John Muir Award encourages awareness and responsibility for the natural environment, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. *The children will achieve this award by participating in a range of activities at a variety of woodland locations in Johnstone. *The topic will include a 5-week block of environmental education, taking place on Thursday and Friday mornings from 9.30am-12pm. *Please ensure that your child has appropriate outdoor footwear (ideally a pair of wellies), a waterproof jacket and a snack on these days. *I would also like to take this opportunity to invite you to come and learn alongside your children during this exciting topic.

P.E Days Primary 6 have PE on a Monday and Wednesday with Miss Harper.

Homework The children will be encouraged to read for pleasure each evening. This can be a book of their own choice or Bug Club. Reading for an extra 10 minutes every day introduces you to an extra 895,043 per year!!!!! On a Monday and Wednesday night the children will be asked to practice Spelling Learn-its. Each week a small section of the list (usually between 5 and 10 words) will be sent home with the children to practice using active spelling activities. On a Tuesday and Thursday night the children will be asked to practice Big Maths Learn-its. The children can also use the Sum-Dog website at home to play games if they wish. In terms 3 and 4 an extended piece of work will be sent home with details from myself. This will be completed over a period of time as directed.

Thank you! Examples of active Spelling and Maths homework activities will be demonstrated in the classroom. Thank you for your support and coming along!
