„Fortbildung Online“: Daily business

Other topics Music: Samba batucada Mathematics: Derive English: Webquests Geographics: GPS – Systems, GIS Plagiarism in schools Online surveys Burn-out prevention for teachers

Facts about Fortbildung Online 1150 events with more than 12.000 participants 290 moderators trained and certified Competence centre for synchronous eTeaching Partner for eLearning projects (i.e. Join Multimedia)

Experiences Synchronous eLearning should not be longer than 60-90 minutes. Most of the moderators like to act in the virtual environment. It‘s quite similiar to teach in realtime in a real classroom. Synchronous events have to be well prepared!

Competencies for live eLearning

Participants: low Basic skills: Internet handling Application handling Maybe new: Handling a headset

Live eTeaching is heavy business! Moderators: high Technical skills: Internet handling Application handling Data flow Pedagogic skills: Experience as teacher in regular classrooms Ability to feel the atmosphere in virtual classrooms Flexible acting and reacting, timing Moderating discussions A trained moderators voice Multitasking skills Excellent preparation of live lectures Live eTeaching is heavy business!

Training the trainer Building an agenda Participating in live events Interactive tools Basic methods Troubleshooting (2 days or completely via internet on three days) COACHING Fake-Events with own agenda and just in time feedback from experienced moderators. First live event with participants and more feedback . PRACTICE!!!!

School project between Hamburg and St. Petersburg Language skills: Talking in German and Russian Working in groups (iClass in Interwise) Experiences: Handling of interwise is no problem Internet connection to St. Petersburg was unstable (in 2003)

iMeetings for closed groups Hundreds of iMeetings in groups i.e. Once a month Experts for education with 30-50 participants (Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland)

Values of synchronous Online-Events for teachers in-service training Ability to set up events without real classrooms at any time Quality increase by including external experts Very interesting for „exotic“ learning groups Borderless Possibility to record whole events External technical infrastructure Materials are transmitted electronically and can be used directly after the event Time saving No need to travel Family friendly (?)

Thank you
