Schedule Website Homework Language Arts Science and Social Studies Writing Science and Social Studies Math Questions

Homework Homework is sent home on Monday and returned on Friday. Your student should be completing the homework independently with your guidance. Each night your student should do one math assignment, 20 minutes of reading, and spelling homework. Some nights your student will have writing homework which is to be completed in the white notebook. The white notebook also needs to be returned to school on Friday. In a few weeks I will be sending zip lock bags home with your students name on them. These bags will have books inside. Please return these books on Friday along with your students homework.

Additional Homework Resources Raz-kids We Give Books Beacon Heights Library Page Spelling City Search kielydewey or go to our class website

Discipline Class rules Listen when your teacher is talking Follow directions quickly Keep your hands and feet to yourself Raise your hand to speak or stand Be safe, be kind, be honest

Discipline Bucket filling http://www.bucketfillers101.com/faqs.php

Discipline Clip Chart Every day the students have an opportunity to move their pin up the chart or down the chart. Once they reach the top, if they make another good choice, fill someone's bucket, or set good example they can move their pin onto my necklace for being “off the chart” good. If the students are on pink by the end of the week they get a sticker on their pin. Once they have four stickers their pin goes on the hall of fame. Once they have four pins on the hall of fame they get a prize from the grab box. Four is the magic number!

Assessments I use continuous ongoing assessment to ensure your students are learning and to ensure that my instruction is effective. I will go over each assessment in more depth with you at parent teacher conference in October. PowerSchool

Literacy in the classroom We use the program Story Town. I read an wide array of literature in the classroom. We focus on: comprehension strategies story elements reading strategies genre studies All of these things impact students’ writing abilities. I teach using the gradual release of responsibility.

Literacy in the classroom Daily Five: Read to self Read to someone Word work Writing Listen to reading

Writing We focus on three types of writing Argumentative Opinion Narrative Common Core- aims to prepare students for the workforce. The creators saw what graduating high school students needed to be successful in the workforce and created the curriculum based on their findings. The increased rigor in writing expectations is also based on their findings.

Science and Social Studies I teach science and social studies through integration. Students will be reading and writing all day, across all content areas.

Math We use the program Math Expressions Hands on Engaging Integrates literature Teaches multiple strategies Math Talk
