*CALL TO WORSHIP AND INVOCATION L: We have come this day to learn about what God expects of us. P: Sometimes we don’t want to know what God expects.

L: Yet God is persistent. God will not let us off the hook so easily L: Yet God is persistent. God will not let us off the hook so easily. P: But we have failed in the past. How can we possibly face the Creator?

L: Always remember that while he calls us to holiness, our God is a God of forgiveness. P: We are grateful for God’s mercy. May it wash over us and set us free.

L: Sisters and brothers, open your hearts to God’s mercy and call to do what is right. P: Be with us, Lord. Help us to turn to you, to see you, to obey you, to be

rescued by your Son. L: Let us worship God. P: Let us worship God!

*HYMN #2022 “Great is the Lord” v.3 Great are you Lord!

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) As we gather before you, Creator, Redeemer, Sustainer, we recognize how great you are. And at the same time,

we realize that because of our sinfulness and selfishness, we don’t belong in your Holy presence. You are constantly loving and giving; we love and give

only when it benefits us only when it benefits us. You offer mercy at all times; we offer mercy “when we feel like it.” You go to the other side and seek to help the lost and broken;

we turn our backs on them and sometimes do the “breaking we turn our backs on them and sometimes do the “breaking.” Forgive us for our shortcomings, for our failures, for our selfishness. Cleanse our hearts,

renew our minds, and strengthen us renew our minds, and strengthen us. (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)

*ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Friends, if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

In Christ we are forgiven, and are empowered to begin anew In Christ we are forgiven, and are empowered to begin anew. (1 John 1:8-9) P: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God, Amen.

CHOIR ANTHEM “My Savior, Jesus”

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications! If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?

But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more

than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem. It is he who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

SCRIPTURE READING: Romans 7:15-25a

I do not understand my own actions I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me.

For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but

sin that dwells within me sin that dwells within me. So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind,

making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!

L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!

*HYMN #370 “Just As I Am Without One Plea” v.1 Just as I am, without one plea But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

*HYMN #370 “Just As I Am Without One Plea” v.2 Just as I am, though tossed about With many a conflict, many a doubt, Fightings and fears within, without, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

*HYMN #370 “Just As I Am Without One Plea” v.3 Just as I am, Thou wilt receive, Wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve; Because Thy promise I believe, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

*HYMN #370 “Just As I Am Without One Plea” v.4 Just as I am, Thy love unknown Has broken every barrier down; Now, to be Thine, yea, Thine alone, O Lamb of God, I come, I come!

OFFERING OUR GIFTS TO GOD Offertory Invitation Offertory

*DOXOLOGY #592 Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION (unison) Lord, you give us everything that is good – our homes, our food, our families, and our lives. All that we own, and all that we are, belong to you.

Since you give us so much, we respond by sharing our time, talents, and our money with others in need. Use these gifts to show your love to people throughout

our world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD JOYS AND CONCERNS PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER All who trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are invited to participate in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Table. With parental permission, baptized children are welcome to partake in the Sacrament as well.

*INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE L: Brothers and sisters in Christ, as we continue our Lenten journey, I invite you to come to the solemn feast of the Lord and be forgiven. At this table, we remember Christ’s sacrifice for us.

*HYMN #516 “Lord, We Have Come” v.1 Lord, we have come at Your own invitation, Chosen by You, to be counted Your friends;

*HYMN #516 “Lord, We Have Come” v.1 Yours is the strength that sustains dedication, Ours a commitment we know never ends.

*THE GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING L: Return your hearts to the Lord! P: We do return them up to the Lord! L: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. P: It is right to give God thanks and praise.

L: With joy we praise you, gracious God, for you have created heaven and earth, made us in your image, and kept covenant with us – even when we fell into sin. When we turned away, sinned against you and our love failed, your love remained steadfast, pure, and holy.

So often you have delivered your people from captivity So often you have delivered your people from captivity. You also made a covenant with us to be our sovereign God, and spoke to us through your prophets. So with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, we praise your name and join in their unending hymn:

P: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. L: In sending Jesus the Christ, the perfect one, you revealed to all how your love works,

and once and for all conquered sin and once and for all conquered sin. Jesus obeyed you by preaching, teaching, restoring, and redeeming. He put total trust in you, trust even unto death. The pain and death he suffered for us secured our salvation. With the sacrifice we celebrate here, he rescued us from sin and death. For that we are deeply thankful.

So, here in this holy time of celebration, here at the sacred feast prepared for us, we would speak of that mystery we call faith: P: We remember Christ’s sacrifice and death; we remember Christ’s resurrection; we remember Christ will come again in glory.

L: God of Mercy, let your Holy Spirit move in power and love over us and over these earthly gifts of bread and wine. By our sharing of them, may we experience the death and resurrection of Christ, and may we be strengthened to overcome sin and be holy, even as you are holy.

The Lord’s Prayer (unison) Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come; thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION On the night he was arrested, while they were eating together and having fellowship, Jesus reached over, took some bread, gave thanks to God. Then he broke it, and gave it to his disciples and told them, “ Take this and eat it. This is my body, given for you.

Do this remembering me and my example.” In the same way, as the meal ended, he took the cup from the table, and said, “This cup I have here is the new covenant, new hope, which will be sealed in my blood, blood I will shed for you for the forgiveness of your sins. Whenever you drink it,

Remember me.” Jesus tells us boldly: “I am the bread of life. If any of you come to me, you won’t be hungry; if any of you believe in me, you Will never be thirsty.” Friends, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup,

You proclaim the saving death of the risen Lord until he comes – and you experience the grace of God.

Distribution of the Bread SHARING OF THE BREAD AND CUP Distribution of the Bread (bread is gluten free) (to symbolize our common experience of God’s grace, please retain the bread until all have been served).

Distribution of the Cup SHARING OF THE BREAD AND CUP Distribution of the Cup (to symbolize our individual experience of God’s grace, please drink the cup as it is served).

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION All: Gracious God, we give you thanks for your mercy and forgiveness. We are grateful that you strengthen us with this holy meal shared in the Spirit with your Son, our Lord, Jesus.

Strengthened against sin, and refreshed, we go from here to sin no more and to be his disciples in the world. This we pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
