My Life Changed Forever….. On October 24, 2004 at 5:30 a.m My Life Changed Forever…..
In this spot …….
Because someone decided to drive After they had been drinking….
The RCMP came to my door with Victim Services It was 11:30 p.m.
I’ll never forget their words….
Amanda, we know you’re a Fellow Officer….
So we’re going to get straight to the point….
There was an accident….
It happened this morning On Highway 22…
Your Dad was killed in the crash
The driver of the other vehicle Was impaired….
My first thought was that this was a dream….
My next was what now….
Nothing could have prepared me for what I would face back home…
It was in every newspaper….
This is all that was left of Dad’s car
His breakfast dishes were still on the table….
I went to his bedroom and hugged his pillow I cried and cried…
It smelled just like him…. Something I will never smell again...
I still have one of his shirts. Cleaning out his closet was very hard…
I hold this picture every October 24th and cry…..
Meanwhile, charges were issued to the impaired driver ….
The impaired driver was 19 years old And ruined his life.
He was sent to jail….
This was all that was left of the vehicle he was driving….
My Brother was very angry…
Because Dad was in the car when it burned, there wasn’t much left of him
It took 5 days for the medical examiner to Positively identify his body
The day I officially became an Officer. Dad was so proud….
But he wasn’t there for my wedding – it’s obvious someone was missing…
Mom carried the Boutonniere my Dad would have worn if he was there
Please….Don’t put someone else through The pain I’ve been through
Please Don’t Drink & Drive Or Drive While Impaired
Goodbye Daddy…I love you….
