CTE Initiatives Annual Perkins Grant used to strengthen and develop programs The purpose of Perkins is to provide individuals with the academic and technical skills needed to succeed in a knowledge- and skills-based economy. Perkins supports career and technical education that prepares its students both for postsecondary education and the careers of their choice. New Hires Margaret Thornton– CTE Coordinator, (Grade 9-12 connections/MC/CCP) Lindy Dobbins – ADV & GRD Instructor, (Digital Media enhancements) Melanie Reddrick – ARC Program Chair/Instructor, (Refocus program) Kent Priddy – AHR Instructor, (enhance development of credentials prep)

CTE Initiatives Additional separate CTE “small perkins” grant funded by NCCCS office GOAL: Development Grade 9-14 Pathways for HS students PT hire funding to develop industry/education partnerships and 2 Pathways Pathways: Welding, AHR “Small perkins grant” supports efforts of NC works Certified Career Pathways Review of Pathway Grid

Construction Tech Highlights Pre-Apprenticeship Training Initiatives Entry Level Building Inspector-Curriculum and CCE classes for Veterans  in partnership Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Plumbing-CCE in Partnership with NC Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association Entry Level Construction-Curriculum  classes in partnership with Carolinas Associated General Contractors NC3 Building Automation Certifications for AHR students-first certifications were completed Spring 2016.

Applied Technology Highlights Graphic Arts (GRA) National Science Foundation Mentorship Program participations Funding proposal to NSF for development of Anti-counterfeiting Technology curriculum within GRA flexography program Welding (WLD) American Welding Society (AWS)certification testing to be provided under contract to Bechtel candidates for pre-employment testing. 150-200 candidates to be tested at Harper within one year for projects in Virginia and Louisiana.
