1. The Ministry of Rural Development After the 1993 Cambodian General Election and the establishment of ‘the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Royal Government has created the MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT (MRD). The creation of the MRD demonstrates the dedication to improving the living standard and alleviating the poverty of rural people .

2. Rural Development Policy Two key policies have been outlined by the MRD to guide and accelerate rural development: • Firstly: To ensure that national and international agencies and organizations involved in rural development work more closely together. • Secondly: To promote the more people oriented and integrated approach to rural development.

3. Rural Development Strategy Development activities will be oriented towards solving socio-economic, cultural and security problems in specific areas according to the situation and the needs of the people. The selection of target areas will be delegated to local levels. Efforts will be made to improve the standard of living in all areas. MRD addresses to compromising and encouraging for the rural development activities.

4. Core Activities To raise the living standards and quality of life for rural people by alleviating poverty through improved rural infrastructure like roads, water supply, health care, agriculture, credit provision, small business/industry and market facilities. To promote human resource development for rural communities and MRD staff by organizing and publicizing local training programs, seminars and workshops that relate to relevant,

Case Study The Rural Development Project in Kampot Cambodia The effects of rural road rehabilitation   - The villages can get the large amount of benefit through road rehabilitation as shortening the time for emergency to the town,considering the condition of vulnerable person such as disabled person, elder persons from retired veteran and so on. - The approach to the market can becomes at ease and commercial farming can be introduced through increasing business opportunities. - The way of daily life becomes upgraded by using vehicles as needs instead of on foot.

The effects of hand pump installation   - Time saving of taking domestic water. - Preventing water-borne disease - In safety using good water quality and drinking water - Getting upgraded quality of life - Increasing and providing safety environment for sanitation and hygiene of water - Enhancing the psychological and emotional mind through using pumping up water from the deep well. The effects of pond and reservoir   - Storing water of irrigation and living, all year farmlands and houses near the facilities can be supplied water

The effects of demonstration farming. -In aspect of agricultural income of household, the lots of income generation will be expected, -Training at the field will empower the villagers up to the commercial farming level. -The villagers have worked at themselves for their demonstration that has allocated for villages respectively. - The agronomist as the government officer from the Ministry of Rural Development has trained full terms of agricultural farming period joined together.It’s anticipated a lot of effects that the national agronomist will take an important role as the trainer of agricultural farming practices. -The household income will be increased through the increased of agricultural productions by themselves.

Status of Construction works 1.Purpose of the Project -Implementing a pilot project for the Integrated Rural Development in 6 villages -Suggestion of a model case and methods to alleviate poverty in rural area -Enhancing the capacity of the National and the Provincial officers to plan, implement and evaluate the rural development project -Introduction and application of new agricultural technologies to the Project site in order to develop new income sources and generate income

2.Project Period: Dec. 2011 to Mar. 2015 3.Outline of the Construction works * Irrigation Facilities for Agricultural Infrastructure One Reservoir -Dam Size 80 m*150 m, Depth 3.0 m high, Embankment: 147 m length, 2 m high, Side Slope (v : h) is 1:2 with grouted rip-rap -Pavement of Embankment: 6 m width of top surface, DBST pavement   4. Ponds Pond 1: Size 30 m*60 m, Depth 3.0 m high, Embankment 1.0 m high Pond 2: Size 55 m*55 m, Depth 3.0 m high, Embankment 1.0 m high Pond 3: Size 56 m*150 m, Depth 3.0 m high, Embankment 1.0 m high
