Converting Percents to fractions Mrs. Muller’s Presentation on… Converting Percents to fractions
Recall A percent is a part of 100 A percent is always out of 100
How To Convert There is a really long way of converting it first back to a decimal by moving the decimal point left 2 and then converting the decimal to a fraction. Would you like to know the shorter way? …… well? ….. If you don’t answer we’ll do it the long way… O good you want to do it the shorter way…. Lets get started then….
The Quicker Way Recall that a percent is out of a 100 That means that the number is out of 100 or over 100 For example 99% would be 99 out of 100 or 99/100 Just put the number over 100
Let’s Do Some for Practice… 65% =65/100 125% =125/100 12.5% 12.5/100 Wait we can’t have a decimal in a fraction?..... What should do? Multiply the fraction by (10/10) which is one and get 125/1000 (or just add a 0 for every decimal and get rid of the decimal.
