Verbs - Function In this section we are going to focus on full/main verbs, which always act as the principal element of a verb phrase Operator/auxiliary verbs will be studied in the Closed-class units They can work as a whole predicator or being after operator verbs or auxiliary verbs Predicator is the main part of a sentence, so it is recommended that we search for the verb when we do an analysis

Verbs - Form Verbs in English can have 5 different inflectional forms: Vo  base form of a verb Vs  3º person singular in present tense Ved  simple past form Ving  gerund form Ven  past participle form These forms applied for both regular and irregular verbs, although the last ones can have various forms

Verbs - Meaning Verbs can express: actions, events, processes, activities, states, etc. All of these can be physical, mental, perceptual, social, among others A good way to recognize if a verb is one, it is to change from present to past and vice versa

Regular vs. Irregular One classification of verbs in English it is seen in the past simple tense, where we can see regular and irregular verbs Regular verbs take a suffix to create the simple past form called –ed There are specific spelling rules: Most verbs + -ed Verbs ending –e + d Verbs ending consonant+y  -ied

Regular vs. Irregular Irregular verbs, on the other hand, do not have one rule to follow. In general we have to memorize them in their one, two or three different forms There is a suggestion of a classification of these verbs on AITEG, onto seven different classes according to three criteria: Past form = participle form All vowels identical Inflections However, the practicality is not clear, unless you can find (or write down) a list of these verbs grouped following this idea

Verb Tenses Following, it will be presented a summary of verb tenses, their forms and some extra cases Firstly, we will see verbs divided into Past, Present and Future and every of this time subdivided into other categories Finally, other cases, which includes: passive and active voice, and conditional cases
