Numbers 10: After spending 11 months at Mount Sinai, the Israelites and Moses are told to begin their journey towards the Promised Land.

OTS I – Pentateuch – Numbers Numbers Overview Fourth book of the Bible Gets its name from the two different censuses taken in the book. 1st census is the generation that left Sinai. 2nd census is the generation that renewed the journey to Canaan. Contains Israel’s history from the departure from Sinai to their arrival at Moab outside of Canaan. Approximately 40yrs are covered in this book.

OTS I – Pentateuch – Numbers Organizaiton (Numbers 1-10:10) 1st Census 603,550 Fighting men. Over age 20 The tribes organize a military formation around the tabernacle The twelve tribes substitute Ephraim and Manasseh for Joseph and Levi.

OTS I – Pentateuch – Numbers Journey and Sojourn (Numbers 10:11-21:35) Kadesh-barnea 12 spies sent to Canaan Spies report of good things in Canaan, but 10 feel they cannot overcome the people of the land. Caleb and Joshua remain faithful and give a good report. God judges Israel’s disbelief and condemns those responsible to die in the wilderness.

OTS I – Pentateuch – Numbers Journey and Sojourn (Numbers 10:11-21:35) Wandering in the wilderness (Numbers 15-19) Korah’s rebellion God brings judgment on the rebellion. The earth “swallows them up.” More murmuring ensues Aaron intercedes for Israel, confirming his priesthood. Aaron passes the test. The budding of Aaron’s rod.
