Sewa Day - National Blood Donation Drive 2017 Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic = BAME

Why is Sewa Day Running This Campaign? Only 3% of donors who gave blood in the last 12 months are of black or Asian heritage. We Urgently need your help. 25% of Asians are blood group B, only 9% of West Europeans share this group – More Asian donors are needed to help boost this blood group. Currently, only 60% of transplant recipients receive the best possible match, and this drops dramatically to 20% if you're from BAME background. We URGENTLY need more Asian blood donors so we can help patients with conditions like Thalassaemia.

Why is Sewa Day Running This Campaign? We need more men aged 17–30 to sign up as they are underrepresented on the register. Someone in need of a transplant is most likely to find a match in a person with a similar genetic history. That often means someone from the same ethnic background. U-negative blood is only found in Black donors Young men make up only 15% of our register, but they provide an astonishing 54% of all donations

Quiz Time This could be your Son or Daughter !! Act Now How Many of you Know what Blood Group You are? Only 7% of people from ethnic minorities know their blood group, compared to 41% nationally. How Many Units of Blood are needed by hospitals (UK) on a Daily Basis? 6,000 units per day are needed to meet hospital demand How Many Children last Year could not find a match in their Families? 300 children who could not find a match within their family

Lets Listen To Amit’s Story Thalassaemia mainly affects people with a South Asian heritage Sickle cell disease mainly affects people from the Black community. Between 13,000 and 15,000 people in the UK have sickle cell disease. It is estimated that 1,000 people in the UK have thalassaemia

We want to Encourage The Youth to Give Around half our current donors are over 45. That's why we need more young people (over the age of 17) to start giving blood, so we can make sure we have enough blood in the future

Most people can give blood. Who can give blood Are you fit and healthy Weigh over 7 stone 12 lbs or 50kg Are you aged between 17 and 66 (or 70 if you have given blood before) How often can I give blood? Men can give blood every 12 weeks and women can give blood every 16 weeks.
