Electron Energy Levels Notes mass of an atom = the # of p+ and n in the nucleus. size of an atom depends on the # and arrangement of e-. Start here

Electron Energy Levels Draw this E = Energy level e- = electron

Electron Energy Levels Each energy level can hold a limited # of electrons. Level 1 -> 2 e- Level 2 -> 8 e- Level 3 -> 18 e- Level 4 -> 32 e- Level 5 -> 50 e-

Energy levels are broken up into sub-levels. There are 4 sub-levels: s, p, d, and f

Electron Energy Levels Each sub-level can hold a limited # of e- s level can hold up to 2 e- p level can hold up to 6 e- d level can hold up to 10 e- f level can hold up to 14 e-

Level 4: 4s = 2 e- 4p = 6 e- 4d = 10 e- 4f = 14 e- = 2 e- total = 8 e- total = 18 e- total = 32 e- total
