Crossroads Project Goals To improve teen traffic safety in Wisconsin through student directed awareness and education activities Focus on areas that are the greatest risks to new drivers: Distracted Driving Seat Belt Use Speeding Impaired Driving Passengers Routed to students through CTSO state advisers CTSO Collaborative Traffic Safety Grant Up to $1000 (Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin & State Farm) Based on scoring rubric

Lincoln High School FBLA/FCCLA “Think Before You Drink” Project Educated students and community about drunk driving by: Made a video to portray the dangers of driving under the influence, and present to the student body Held a “Shattered Dreams Day” to symbolize the number of people killed each day in the United States due to drunk driving Invited a guest speaker to share personal experience with driving under the influence Hung informational posters around the school

Badger High School FCCLA Interactive SMART Board Lesson Teach students at Star Center Elementary about the importance of seatbelt safety. Made seatbelt pillows to motivate students to buckle up!

South Milwaukee High School FCCLA and HOSA organized a school assembly with activist Valetta Bradford, whose child was injured by a distracted driver Followed up with simulators, safe driving pledges, and shirts with their pledge message

Appleton North DECA Crossroads Safe Driving Night Focused on a texting and driving campaign

Outcomes School programming reached approximately 5000 students with direct instruction Thousands of additional touches through community programming, media and social media New relationships with six CTSOs in Wisconsin that engage more than 41,000 students Student success in State and National competitions Identified additional stakeholders in target counties through presentation at the WI Governor’s Conference Recognized by State Superintendent of Education
