COMMUNITY REPS

Housekeeping In the event of a fire alarm sounding, please use your nearest exit and head to the lawn outside the front of the Northern Stage. Toilets are located at the end of the corridor, just past the double doors. To help promote the training we may take photos during the session. If you would prefer not to be in the photos, please let us know.

Welcome to representation Congratulations on becoming a Community Rep! The Students’ Union is working hard to create a fully formed representation structure in the community to allow everyone to get the best possible experience.

Your Role To represent students in your area To work alongside the city council and residents to enrich the local community and student involvement in it. To run campaigns that are relevant to residents within your ward, including students.

Areas covered The city is divided into many wards. To make things easier for Reps and students to understand we have renamed the wards in areas. City and West Heaton Jesmond West Jesmond Ouseburn Sandyford

Responsibilities Speaking to students in your local area to gather their opinions and provide them with feedback on their suggestions and comments. Arrange at least one community event or campaign per term. Attend regular ward meetings and local residents group meetings. Volunteer to attend either Student Council, or an SU committee.

Organising an event/campaign As part of your key responsibilities within the role, you will be required to arrange, at least one community event per term, in consultation with the students in your community · Develop campaigns and events that will highlight the key issues in your area. All your events will be different. Previous community events have included ‘Leave Newcastle Happy’ and litter pick up’s.

Support As well as this initial training, you will also receive training or an induction for the Students’ Union committee that you attend. We will also look to organise events and campaigns training which would be suitable for Community Reps.  We will also organise Community Rep social events and we will always be available to answer any questions and support you with any issues you have. In addition we will provide you with a Community Rep hoody so you are visible to students in your area.
