CREATIVITY ANALYSIS CS 8803 - Creativity and Design Cognition (Under the guidance of Prof. Ellen Do) Anuja Chockalingam, Luxmi Saha, Surabhi Satam College of Computing, Georgia Institute of Technology Professional Statistics of Survey Takers What is creativity? Creativity involves discovery of new ideas or association between couple of existing ideas. This is usually catalyzed by either conscious or unconscious insight. Steps to Creative Thinking Strategies : Preparation: Knowledge regarding the field. Incubation: Process of creative ideas Illumination: Enlightenment with possible solution. Verification: Verify the veracity of the solution. Each Step has two phases. Divergent thinking processes Convergent thinking processes We have followed the convergent thinking process in our study. Our Project classifies individuals based on the survey conducted and draws the appropriate conclusion. Sample images for survey Sample of Chart Results and Inference Table of the most common answers given by professionals r Group of Survey Takers Where does the difference lie? Though the answers given by professionals hailing from different backgrounds pointed to the same theme. Yet the difference was evident in the expression of their thoughts in describing each picture. What was called a ‘women’s face’ by a computer scientist, was described as a ‘glass painting of a lady’ by a person belonging to the field of Architecture and Drafting. How is creativity affected by aesthetic sense of a person? The respondents to the survey were also asked to mention if they like to pursue creative activities in form of activities like painting, media etc. It was observed that engineers and computer scientists who had a taste in art would give different answers as well. Shortcomings of this Procedure: The variety of approaches reaffirms that no definite conclusion exists about how creativity should be measured, and the relations between creativity and intellect remain unclear. Most common answers for some of the images: Puzzle Woman Child and Parents Zebra Pumpkin Correlation between interpretation and professions. By looking at the answers of the survey conducted between different professionals we could infer that most of the times a respondent would write something which is directly or indirectly related to his workplace.
