Bud, not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis Genre: (Hysterical) Historical Fiction This book won the Newbery Medal (given to books for the most distinguished contribution to children’s literature) The story centers around a young orphan who sets off to find his family during the great depression Bud lives by rules…what rules do you live by? (pgs. 11, 18, 42, 133) Excerpt on pg. 12

Gregor The Overlander by Suzanne Collins Genre: Fantasy Hunger Games writer Suzanne Collins has also written this 5-book fantasy series that has a setting in the “Underland”, an entire world that resides below ours Our main characters is Gregor, an average 11 year old boy who is tasked with babysitting his little sister Boots for the summer On day one Boots falls through a grate in the laundry room and Gregor follows…which is where the adventure begins! If you like stories with overprotective cockroaches and bats, who have to battle evil rats, this is the story for you. Great for Percy Jackson fans

Notes From the Midnight Driver: by Jordan Sonnenblick Genre: Realistic Fiction Alex’s parents are on the verge of a divorce and his dad is dating his 3rd grade teacher!!! Alex has had enough….so he decides to drive (without a license) to confront his dad, which results in the grisly death-by-decapitation of an innocent (and expensive) French garden gnome!
