Content Standards areas Reading Writing Speaking and listening Written and Oral Language Conventions Vocabulary Homework/classwork

Materials Needed Space in a three-ring binder or a folder designated for English class. Loose-leaf paper One bound composition book (absolutely no spiral notebooks allowed) Pen (dark ink only), pencil, highlighter

Attendance/make-up work It is your responsibility to get all work and handouts from the day you missed. As per district policy you have one day for each absent day to turn in work missed due to absence. Late work is accepted prior to the end of each 6 week grading period. Once a grading period has closed, you can no longer turn in work assigned during that time. This date will always be posted on the board.

Retake Policy Tests which receive a F can be retaken for a passing grade of a C. All retakes must be accompanied by a Request to Retest form which is available from me or on my website. All requirements must be met before a retake is allowed. All retakes will be taken outside of class time. Before school, after school, or A lunch (I will have a class, so you should let me know ahead of time so I can have test ready when you arrive).

Tardy/Being out of class/food and drink The YHS tardy policy will be adhered to. If you are tardy, you will be marked tardy in AERIES and a lunch detention will be assigned. If you receive a total of three (3) first period tardies the school will assign you a Saturday School. You are tasked with using the restroom during your breaks and passing periods, however, a bathroom pass is available for those who use it responsibly. No Food or Drink is allowed in class—WATER ONLY!

Dress code YHS Dress Code will be strictly adhered to in this classroom. No Hats in the classroom No spaghetti straps, midriffs, strapless tops, sagging jeans, inappropriate graphic t-shirts, etc…

Grades Grades are updated weekly at the most. Please log-in Aeries to check posted grades frequently. A 90-100% B 80-89% C 70-79% C 65-69%

Homework/Turnitin.com A homework grade will be calculated every 6 weeks. If at least 80% of the work is completed, you will receive the full 20 points plus five points extra credit. If you receive less than 80%, you will receive whatever percentage you have of 20. For example, if you did 70% of the work, you will receive 14 out of the 20 points. 50% will get you 10 out of 20. There is very little extra credit offered in this class. If you do this throughout the quarter, you could end up with 15 extra credit points for the semester. All students will be required to signup for turnitin.com. All essays written outside of class will be required to be submitted through turnitin.com.

Academic Honesty All work submitted and found to be completed through dishonest means will receive a zero in the gradebook, a phone call home, and a referral to administration.

Electronic Devices No Phones No Earbuds No tablets No Mp3 players All devices should be shut off and put away. If you have a device out without prior permission, it will be confiscated and sent to the office. Note: YOU HAVE BEEN EDUCATED AS TO THE RULES REGARDING ELECTRONICS IN THIS CLASSROOM; THEREFORE IT WILL BE CONSIDERED A ACT OF DEFIANCE TO DISREGARD THIS RULE. A REFERRAL WILL ACCOMPANY ANY SECOND OFFENSE.

The 3rs Policy Respect yourself by making good choices. Respect your classmates and teacher by treating them kindly. Take responsibility for all your actions.
