2007-2008 vs 2015-2016 Total Membership: 2008- 2016 2007-2008 2015-2016 Clubs 119 107 Members 9,881 8,472 Who? Young mothers Retirees 2015: 8,540 members; 2016: 8472 - 68 fewer members Over the last 5 years, there has been a drop of 5% in membership This year we are tracking nationally new members (627 new members) We are increasing our non-degreed members: 2016 – 397 (4%); 2015 – 311 (3%); 2014 – 281(3%)
What We Look Like: 2015-2016 Median Club Size = 58 By Region – no surprises. Matches the proportion of the population - 2014 2015 2016 Size – 30 or less = 23 21 25 31-50 = 19 22 20 51-100 = 38 36 36 101-200 = 15 18 17 Over 200 = 11 10 9 Total Members = 5% decline over 5 years Greatest decline = Prairies & Atlantic about 10% Median Club Size = 58 34% of Clubs are between 51-100 members (same as last year) 23% are Small Clubs -30 or less (19% last year)
Membership Trends Overall Challenges 1% decrease each year for the last two years 5% decrease in the last 5 years Non-degreed membership is rising Challenges Ageing membership Economically depressed areas ( economic stress in AB & NL) The decrease is only 1% because of a 8% increase in New Members; otherwise, are numbers would be much worse
Sustainability & Growth Membership Conference Calls (4 fall, 4 spring) 34 clubs, including 9 small clubs; ideas from calls circulated to all clubs and posted on resource website Small Club AGM Grants 4 full; 7 partial with help from AGM attendee donations I want to thank those attendees who generously made a donation (close to $900) to help support our small clubs attend the AGM. It really shows the commitment that we have to supporting each other and CFUW. (last year ~$600) 2015 – 3 full; 6 partial Sm. Club Grants; 13 Special Awards; 14 Member Increase, 8 New Member Awards 2016 – 4 full; 7 partial Sm. Club Grants; Have Grant Recipients Stand 9 Special Awards; [After the second year of our national initiative, we knew that this would be an ongoing initiative for clubs involved; 9 Responding to and the Prevention of Violence Against Women Awards with some clubs doing multiple projects, adding partners or expanding their project reach 13 Member Increase, 29 New Member Awards

Sustainability and Support Continued Development of Club Supports Newly designed club resource webpage Club resource usb given to club presidents Club in a Bag resource for start-up and small clubs Webinars initiated to support club knowledge/skills On-line Visibility Website Front page - Renovated Continued posting of club Special & VAW projects on our Social Media & The Communicator (regular posting of club news in Club Action Newsletter) External Annual Report In an effort to better serve its members and to enhance the organization’s profile, the two CFUW websites were revamped and formatted for mobile devices.
Success Factors in Growing Membership Clubs have made an commitment to: Use our Strategic plan resources to set a goal, make a plan and follow up on it Have public events & promote their club at them Use the new branding materials to create more visibility Get comfortable talking about CFUW – elevator speeches, using business cards Participate in the membership teleconferences and webinars This year 13 clubs have more than 10% increase in membership plus 29 clubs had more than 10% new members. Clubs who are using the growing resources that have been developed by CFUW over the last few years. They have had fun doing these new events. Beginning this year, CFUW began to offer webinars which included one on Power Up Your Membership - Ways to Increase and Energize your Members and one on Amending the GWI Constitution and By-laws.
