Draft Parking Principles

Draft Parking Principles Parking should strive towards being a self sufficient operation that does not depend on the operating grant which is intended for teaching and learning. Parking should be fully sustainable as a self sufficient operation within five years. The operating costs for parking should be minimized as much as possible and take advantage of technology advancements where feasible.

Draft Parking Principles 4. Rates for parking lots should be directly related to the proximity to building entrances, whereby the closer the proximity, the higher the rate. 5. Parking rates should be based on a twelve month year. 6. Parking regulations should be properly enforced to ensure safety (blue zones, snow clearing needs, fire lanes, emergency access, etc.).

Draft Parking Principles 7. Parking regulations should adhere to collective agreements, where applicable. 8. Parking regulations should be properly communicated to the Grenfell Community. 9. Parking should consider all Campus users (visitors, staff, contractors, vendors, etc.).

?? Draft Parking Principles ?? (up to ~ five minutes)

One example of an alternative approach…

“Free” Parking Minimize free parking on Campus Reduce from 330 spaces to 87 spaces behind Recplex

Parking App Use a parking app to pay per use Trial on 13 spaces in the circle Pay $1.50 per hour No capital investment

Parking App Can set up hourly, daily, etc. rates Reminder sent to add more time without having to leave class or meeting Enforcement views a website to see a list of paid vehicles by license plate # Pay via mobile app, mobile web, voice or SMS (text)

Parking Permits Permits required Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm Increase the permit cost for spaces on Campus Multi year phased approach to minimize the impact on users Various payment options (lump sum, payroll deductions, installments)

Parking Permits Designate spaces at Recplex @ $2.60 for Faculty as per Collective Agreement Chalet sites and residence complex $75/yr Large lots across from Library, Fine Arts and Bennett Wing $100/yr Spaces close to Fine Arts and Pool entrance $250/yr

Impact in Year 1 Estimated maintenance costs ~$132,000 Potential revenue from increased permits ~$67,000 Closes the gap by ~50% A step in the right direction!
