Congratulations! You are the first PATROL class of Madison’s Trust Elementary! You are now one of 654,000 students in 34,500 schools nationwide who are helping keep other students safe on their way to and from school Not only will you serve as MTE’s FIRST Patrol class, you will also be responsible for passing on your patrol badge and uniform on to a fellow Macaw as part of our cadette program!

Program Objective To help keep other students safe on their way to and from school while training a junior cadette for next year’s patrol program

Patrol Pledge I promise to do my best. I will be RESPECTFUL: treat everyone fairly without being bossy RESPONSIBLE: report to my post on time everyday READY: serve as an example, and report dangerous student practices

Patrol posts Determined by your mode of transportation to and from school Bus riders: bus patrols, or bus posts Walkers: car loop, hallways or bike rack Car riders: (must arrive by 7:30 am) car loop or hallways

Taking your role seriously… Look, act and be alert. Report for duty on time. Always set a good example- practice safe walking tips. Never stop vehicles. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Remind classmates of safe walking rules without being bossy. Obey rules of the patrol, school and home.

Time management Prepare the night before: arrive to your post dressed and ready to go! Check the weather the night before: weather does not excuse you from your post! Leave for school a few minutes early so you do not need to rush to your post. Find a safe place to store your backpack and personal items out of the way Balance your school work and patrolling responsibilities Attend monthly patrol meetings Speak to your patrol advisor: Mr. Rauch or Mrs. Weissman, if you’re struggling to manage your time

Positions AT EASE HOLDING Before arriving at their post, patrollers should be sure to place backpacks and other belongings in a safe place near their post or at school so they do not interfere with their duties. AT EASE stand at least one foot back from the curb in a comfortable position look around for cars and students that may approach HOLDING stand at least one foot back from the curb stand with arms out to the side at a 45-degree angle with palms facing back check all ways for approaching traffic and hold kids in position until you find a safe gap in traffic

Carpool/Parking Lot Before arriving at their post, patrollers should be sure to place backpacks and other belongings in a safe place near their post or at school so they do not interfere with their duties. Open car door once the car comes to a COMPLETE stop Do not allow students to reach under a vehicle to pick something up for any reason. Notify an adult if a student drops something Never reach under a vehicle on behalf of a student

STUDENT WRITE UPS ARE CONFIDENTIAL- DO NOT SHARE Bus loading posts Line up about 5-8 feet away from the bus door with your arm facing the bus door Greet everyone entering the bus with a POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND SMILE Blow your whistle if someone is pushing, shoving, or running onto the bus Write students up if they do NOT correct their behavior after you’ve blown the whistle *all student write ups should be turned in to Mr. Rauch* STUDENT WRITE UPS ARE CONFIDENTIAL- DO NOT SHARE

STUDENT WRITE UPS ARE CONFIDENTIAL- DO NOT SHARE Hallways ALWAYS greet everyone with a smile and “good morning!” or “have a great day!” Blow your whistle if: the students are yelling, running, pushing, or shoving shout out “WALK PLEASE” Write students up if: a student does not correct his/her behavior AFTER you’ve blown your whistle you witness any physical aggression *all student write ups should be turned in to Mr. Rauch* STUDENT WRITE UPS ARE CONFIDENTIAL- DO NOT SHARE

Reporting time All patrols should report to their post by 7:30 am Sign in at front desk If you are going to be absent (sick/vacation), let Mr. Rauch know Remain at post until 7:50 am
