Control Center The Brain of the process. Each switch controls a valve or a pump. Analog analyzers can be used to monitor parameters at a glance.

SCADA Interface Operations are performed, recorded, monitored, and analyzed through this Interface.

Lab Water quality parameters are routinely measured and recorded here.

Lab Chlorine residual is measured by introducing a reagent to a sample cell containing finished water. The sample is measured in the spectrometer.

Micro biological lab Weekly samples from the distribution system are tested for coliform bacteria here. Lake samples are also processed and reviewed here. Additional tests are run at independent laboratories.

Process AREA This room houses the bulk chemical tanks and feed pumps used to inject chemicals.

Aluminum Sulfate - Coagulant Used to increase the size of the matter to be filtered by chemically bonding impurities.

Cationic Polymer - coagulant Helps to produce larger floc, conditions filters.

Poly Aluminum Chloride - coagulant Used during high algae periods in lieu of Alum and Cat Poly.

Sodium Hypo chlorite - Disinfection Added to deactivate any bacteria that may come in contact with the finished water.

Sodium Hydroxide - ph adjustment A base, used to increase pH to a suitable level to prevent pipe corrosion and ensure palatable drinking water.

Hydro Fluosilicic Acid - Fluoridation A consumers vote in 1965 mandated the district add fluoride to prevent tooth decay.

Poly Phosphate Used to form a lining inside pipes to inhibit the leaching of lead and copper.

lifted roughly 20’ through the clarifiers. Pump Room China Lake water travels by gravity to the base of these pumps where it is lifted roughly 20’ through the clarifiers.

Pipe Gallery Water is directed to and from the filters through a network of pipes and valves.

Filter Bay 3 upflow Clarifiers and 6 Granular Activated Carbon Filters remove impurities from the raw water.

Expected Annual Fuel savings - 30% Boiler Room Two boilers installed in 2011 replace 6 boilers from 1992 Expected Annual Fuel savings - 30%

Generator room Used to run the process in the event of power failure.

Clearwells 2 million gallons of storage enables required contact time for chlorine reaction.

Lagoons When the filters and clarifiers becoming overloaded with floc, they must be backwashed or flushed. This water is sent to a lagoon. When the lagoon becomes full it is taken offline and allowed to dry before the material and scraped and transported away. Check out our PROJECTS tab for more information about exciting new uses for this waste product!

UPGRADES Boilers 2011 Chemical Feed Pumps 2011-2013 PLC 2011-2012

We are in the process of upgrading our chemical feed pumps. The new pumps will give us more control and enhanced safety. Thermo Scientific Peristaltic Pump Milton Roy Positive Displacement Pump

By additional features on the existing SCADA system. The analog board will soon be a distant memory as we have commenced work on A new programmed logic controller (PLC). This board will disappear and be replaced By additional features on the existing SCADA system.

Thank you for touring our facility! We would be happy to walk you through the plant in person. Please call (207) 923-3358 to schedule a visit.
