Test Coordinator Training April 26, 2017 May STAAR Test Administration Grades 3 & 4 Math/Reading Grade 5 Science Grade 5 Math/Reading Retest

This training does NOT take the place of reading the appropriate manuals.

AGENDA Welcome/Announcements STAAR Reminders STAAR Testing Window Closing Remarks

STAAR Reminders Refer to your block calendar for important dates for shipment of materials and quality control, etc. Do NOT mark students absent until the end of the testing window because the students may show up; On the ETS orange label write your ORG number >>>> 057-905-ORG; Write the test administration STAAR 3-8 or 5/8 Retest on each label. You can use a stamp to mark void or online (optional). Do this at the end of the testing window. If a student is given the wrong answer document and proceeds to test, VOID the answer document do not erase. Transcribe the answers on a new document. The Test Administrator needs a Form 1 booklet for paper based OA. Refer to OA guidelines. Time to test is only for 3rd/4th Math-Rdg & 5th Science Administration not Grade 5 test. See page 12 in TA manual.

STAAR Reminders Students must take the right test on the right day; Students must be given the correct language of the test EN/SP. If the wrong test language is administered, contact your DWTC for guidance. Students given the wrong test language and have completed more than 5 questions on that version, are not allowed to retest in the correct language. Remind Test Administrator to check answer document to ensure students have bubbled all their answers if time still remains for testing; Write the reason on the answer document if you are voiding the answer document; Flag all emails from Karen and DWTCs. Check the website and do an email search on the topic before calling. Bring your seating charts with the booklet numbers. This helps during quality control when a booklet number was overlooked on the answer document. Use the Quality Control document that we send you to help quality control answer documents on campus. Quality control is really for counting answer documents….NOT completing the missing information for students.

STAAR Reminders Please try to email before calling. Especially on the first day of testing! Contact the main number on quality control days because we are busy checking schools and are not able to answer calls or email until later. Mark the test O by selecting the attributes button next to the student’s name in STAAR Online testing. Hitting the attributes to mark a student absent should also be done if the student only tested online. Snacks are not allowed during STAAR testing. Use the sample provided to assist you in creating a blank answer document. Local ID is left justified.

Testing Irregularities STAAR Reminders Testing Irregularities Serious Procedural Directly or indirectly assisting students. Anyone tampering with student responses. Discussing secure test content, student responses, or student performance. Duplicating or electronically capturing any confidential student test content. Ineligibility and IEP errors Improper accounting of secure materials. Not verifying that student responses are recorded on an answer sheet. Leaving classrooms unattended. Testing personnel not properly monitoring students during organized breaks. Students were not prevented from using electronic devices and shared test content. Allowing untrained staff members to enter testing rooms. Students were permitted to test beyond the allowed time. Students were not permitted to test during the allowable timeframe. Test administrators did not read verbatim from the STAAR EOC Manual. Test administrator using cell phone during testing

Recording Accommodations on the Answer Document Answer documents must be double checked for accuracy – Campus and District Ratings are derived from what we code on the ANSWER DOCUMENTS Campus personnel will accurately record accommodations on each student’s answer document or in the Assessment Management System for online administrations. Record the accommodation that is documented and made available to a student, even if the student did not use the accommodation during testing. Student Assessment Division Texas Education Agency

Recording Accommodations on the Answer Document The following accommodation bubbles may be available, depending on the test and/or the mode of testing. GA = general accommodation LP = large print XD = extra day BR = braille CS = content support (online only) LV = language and vocabulary support (online only) Student Assessment Division Texas Education Agency

Recording Score Codes on the Answer Document STAAR Score Codes “S” – tested “A” – absent “O” – other (illness, testing irregularity, EOC/above grade level, substitute assessment, etc.) “*” – paper/online (on a two subject answer document only) NOTE: For each subject area, only ONE score code should be gridded. Returning Test Materials Quality Control Post-administration

Campus Quality Control Scorable Answer Documents Verify nothing is left in books. Ensure that pertinent identifying information is bubbled on hand gridded documents. Place hand gridded documents on top of the stack. Ensure score code, language, & form number are bubbled and booklet numbers written. Organize answer documents with paper bands. (by section) Ensure accommodations as applicable are bubbled. Do NOT mix 5thMR with 3rd, 4th MR & 5th SCI ETS is counting EVERY answer document. Return all answer documents. DO NOT DESTROY unused or damaged answer documents. ALL must be returned to ETS.

Materials Return: Lessons Learned and General Reminders Verify scorable materials are returned separated by administration – do not mix scorable materials from different administrations in the same box(es). Verify voids are not mixed with live answer documents and are correctly placed at the bottom of scorables under a voided header. Verify all four primary student identifying fields (First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, and PEIMS ID) are complete and correctly gridded on hand gridded answer documents.

Materials Return: Lessons Learned and General Reminders Ensure students have not gridded in bubbles at the bottom of the answer document. Ensure that the District and Campus Name/Org are written in the box on the bottom of a hand gridded answer document.

Materials Return: Lessons Learned and General Reminders Verify documents are placed under the correct campus header(s). Ensure the correct County-District-Campus code is indicated on the header. NOTE: Campus names shown on preprinted headers may be truncated and should therefore not be solely relied on. Do not use header sheets from prior administrations or different administrations.
