DESCRIPTION OF NPPO AD CHANGES Functions and Structure The main function of Plant Quarantine Services (PQS) in Zimbabwe is to monitor and regulate the movement of agricultural produce, so as to protect the country’s agriculture industry by minimizing the risk of introducing exotic pests and at the same time export potentially dangerous pests’ free agricultural produce on overseas markets. The mandate of PQS in Zimbabwe entrenched in the Plant Pests and Diseases Act [Chapter 19:08] which was enacted by the parliament in 1958. The Act is amended from time to time by Parliament to keep abreast with present and future agricultural produce and movement of agriculture produce.

Emergency Measures Larger grain Borer- Prostephanus truncatus Notifiable pests are announced of their presence by the Minister of Agriculture as when he/she deems appropriate upon advice from the NPPO Fruit fly Bactrocera invadens currently surveillance is underway to determine the pest status of Zimbabwe in regards to this pest
