History 1994: The Philippines connects to the Internet through PHnet, a project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST); PHnet initially connects ten universities and DOST 1996: Commercial ISPs are established in the Philippines; most organizations, including universities, connect to commercial ISPs to access the Internet 1997: PHnet connects to APAN through MAFFIN 1999: DOST-ASTI becomes a partner of the Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3), a project of the WIDE Project 2002: DOST establishes and launches the PREGINET Project

Overview PREGINET is: the national research and education network of the Philippines funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and supported by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Focus areas Networking technologies Distance education ICT for Agriculture Bioinformatics Internet services and applications
