Warm Up Name one advancement discussed in last classes reading (How Did Egyptians Farm), and explain why it was important to the Egyptians in a 5-7 sentence paragraph.

Objective- SWBAT identify the different inventions created by the Ancient Egyptians

Take a minute and write a word spelled out with Egyptian hieroglyphics!!

These symbols were extremely important to the Ancient Egyptians Why might they be so important to lives of Egyptians? (Turn and talk)

Can you recall the name of the writing system used in Mesopotamia Can you recall the name of the writing system used in Mesopotamia? Ancient Egyptians also had their own form of writing, this form of writing was known as hieroglyphics

At first they just used symbols, for example, a house would be used to represent a house. Later they created symbols for sound and eventually made a complex writing system.

Who can Identify the term scribe (discussed in previous unit) Some Egyptian men attended school to become scribes.

Why were hieroglyphics were an important invention to Egyptian society Why were hieroglyphics were an important invention to Egyptian society? (Turn and talk) While the Egyptians writing system is very different then the writing system we used, the Egyptians had a major impact on many inventions we still use today.

Independent Practice Mr. Rubel will distribute a chart of the different inventions discussed in yesterday and today’s class. Students will complete the chart independently by identifying the inventions and explaining their importance.
