GROUP PRESENTATION: PLANNING a class trip to the middle east & europe FOCUS: THE MAJOR RELIGIOUS SITES OF CHRISTIANITY, JUDAISM AND ISLAM Date Set: Feb 24th, 2016. Date Due: Tuesday 15th March 2016

Task summary Instead of just learning about the content in class, you have been given the opportunity to plan a class trip to the Middle East and Europe in order to better understand the great world religions of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. You will have approximately 2 weeks for the vacation. You will need to depart & return from Guangzhou or Hong Kong. Working with a partner, you both assume the role of travel agents.

BUDGET?? HOW MUCH TO SPEND This is a class trip, so it cannot be too expensive. Ideally parents are prepared to spend between US $2500 to $3500 on this trip and this includes all expenses. This budget should be used a guide as you select an appropriate, airfare, hotels and places to visit.

Where will you go??? In order to have a better understanding of the three major religions, you will need to ensure you visit holy sites/historical places from each of the 3 faiths. You are required to visit 10 different religious sites/historical places. You should visit at least 3 Islamic sites, 3 sites important to Judaism and 3 sites important to Christianity. Plus another site of your choice from either of the religions. Some locations feature multiple sites in the same city (eg: Jerusalem), so this could make things easier for touring purposes. However, the itinerary you develop is your choice. You can go just to Middle East or to the Middle East & Europe. You could also have stopover on your itinerary, If appropriate.

DETAILED INFORMATION On EACH RELIGIOUS SITEs / building. (50 marks) For each of the religious sites, you will need to justify why it should be included in the itinerary. This justification could include: Major historical events which happened at the location. The architectural highlights/features of the religious building, which the visitor should pay close attention to, during a visit. Any special status the site has received (eg: World Heritage Status – when it was granted and why?) What the site/location can teach a student about the religion. Each site requires about 100 word justification with supporting photos, maps or images (3 to 4 minimum per site)

DAILY Itinerary for the trip (10 marks) You will need to develop a daily itinerary from the departure from AISG to your return. This itinerary will need to include: Airlines used to get to & from your destination & the travelling time. Hotels or Hostels that you will stay in each location. Summary of what you will see & do each day:

SUMMARY OF EXPENSES (10 marks) You will need to produce a summary table of expenses (real costs, not hypothetical figures) How much will the airfare cost? How much will the hotels costs? Be specific about where you will stay. How much should you estimate for meals each day? Local Transportation?? Entrance fees to sites How much will travel insurance cost?

PROOF OF EXPENSES In order to prove that you sourced real expenses for the trip, take a screenshot or copy/paste, the airline ticket / hotel information into the presentation.

WHERE DO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT TRAVEL EXPENSES? Suggested websites: www.expedia.com www.orbitz.com www.travelocity.com

Presentation to the school community You will need to summarize all the information about the trip in a concise presentation of at least 8 minutes, but no more than 10 minutes. Your main task is to convince the audience that you have the best itinerary, when compared to other groups. The class will vote on which trip they would like to take!! PRESENTATION ELEMENTS: (10 marks) High quality Powerpoint featuring an extensive range of graphs, photos images. Excellent knowledge of the places you will visit. You don’t have to memorize what you will say, but you should not be reading the whole time from notes. Try to have good eye contact and gestures.
