Did you know… 1 in 5 women struggle with an eating disorder or disordered eating 20% of those with an eating disorder are women between the ages of 12 and 25. 11% of high school students have been diagnosed with an eating disorder. 51% of 9 to 10 year old girls say they feel better if they are on a diet.

What is An Eating Disorder (ED)? A psychological disorder where a person becomes preoccupied with food or weight. There are several types of eating disorders.

Types of ED Anorexia Nervosa Bulimia Nervosa Self starvation Fear of gaining weight or being fat Dramatic weight loss. Bulimia Nervosa Binging: Overeating Purging Fear of being overweight or fat Must compensate to get rid of calories

What is Depression? A state of chronic sadness or hopelessness that interferes with a person’s ability to carry out normal daily activities.

Signs of Depression Feeling sad or empty Irritability Restlessness Changes in sleep Difficulty concentrating Chronic headaches or pain Hopelessness or worthlessness Loss of interest Decreased energy Trouble making decisions Appetite changes Suicidal thoughts

How does it affect ED? ED patients are 50x more likely to develop depression Over half of patients with binge ED suffer from depression 44% of bipolar patients suffer from depression
