Data Driven Instructional Coaching: Feedback for Improvement Rob Murphy Executive Director of Teaching & Learning

Unlike other school leaders, instructional coaches are able to collect a great deal of instructional and learning data longitudinally. Analyzing patterns in this data can lead to improved student learning and achievement. The challenge is collecting and documenting classroom data. This presentation will help you create a system for collecting and analyzing classroom data.

Agenda framing the learning essential questions objectives learning focused organizations effective instructional feedback classroom data collection and analysis action planning

Essential Questions What are the characteristics of an organization focused on learning? What data indicates successful instruction? How do we know students are learning? How is this data collected and shared? What professional learning moves instructional practice forward so that it increases student achievement?

Objectives Participants will be able to: identify strengths and obstacles to providing teachers with effective instructional feedback evaluate data collection techniques for use in classroom observations use observational data to create goals for teachers that positively impact student learning document instructional coaching data to evaluate the impact of instruction

Instructional Coaching Instructional coaches work with teachers to help them incorporate research-based instructional practices into their teaching so that students will learn more effectively. --Jim Knight coaching guru University of Kansas
