Search results are displayed according to “Your Selections”. A user can select a result by clicking the hyperlink or selecting multiple results by placing checks in the checkbox next to each result and then selecting the view button found above the search results. Users can further refine their search by typing a text search into the “search within results for” text box, using filters in the Topics Search, or accessing filters from the Geographic Search, Population Group Search, or Industry Search Overlays. The Compare and Identify feature helps users to select the product(s) that best meets their needs by providing some additional information and a table shell. Sort, View, Download, and Compare Search Result Products -Quick access to download products -Assists users to select the proper search result -Allows users to “preview” a table shell Refine or Narrow Search results by: -Text search “Search Within Results for” -Selecting filters for: Topics Geographies Population Groups Industry Codes The Download Products function allows a user to extract tables from the system. The Download function is accessible from the Search Results Page, the Table Actions area on the Data Product Results Page, and the Geography Overlay Map Tab.

Search Using Geography - Name Enter text to look for a geography name or use the geography filters Geographic Selections are added to “Your Selections” Search Results are updated Geography Overlay After the user enters a geographic name or selects geography filters, the system displays a list of geographies that contain that geography. The user can then select geographies from this list to initiate or refine their data product search. “Your Selections” and your Search Results are updated (behind the overlay) as selections are made. Name Tab Enter a geographic name or use filtered options from left-navigation to select geographies Address Tab Users can enter street address, city and state, or a street address and zip code to search for data or products Users will select geographies to be added to their “Your Selections” Search Results are refined Map Tab View reference maps Select geographies to initiate or refine a data product search; Selections are added to “Your Selections”

Search using Geography - Maps Use map tools (zoom, pan, find a location) to find a geographic area Select a single geography by clicking on the map Select multiple geographies by drawing a rectangle or circle on the map Add the selected geographic areas to “Your Selections” Reference Maps The View Basic Map / Reference Map Function allows users to view a basic map for reference and to use a map for geographic selection. Map Tools Navigating on a Map (e.g. zoom, pan, reposition); 15-level zoom; Changing Map Scale; Identifying Geography Name; Print; Finding a Location (address, search and latitude / longitude); Changing Map Content (Showing/Hiding Features, Boundaries and Labels) and Placing Map Markers (points and text).   The View Basic Map/Reference Map function is an updated mapping tool, based on ArcGIS, that is available from the Main Page and the Geographic Selection Overlay Map Tab. The user can access the reference map features from the Main Page by either selecting a state to view a map of or by just selecting the GO Button to display the US extent map. When the user accesses these features from the Geographic Selection Overlay Map Tab, the system will display a map at the extent of the user selected geographies. The boundaries of the selected geographies in “Your Selections” will be highlighted to make them distinguishable to the user. Selected geographies from all other geography types (out of scale) will become visible and highlighted at their predefined scale The operational data in the dynamic map services used primarily for geographic search and reference maps will not be cached and the map server will draw the map image at the user requested extent and scale dynamically and this image will be overlayed on the cached images from the basemap in the browser. This can give the user the control to turn the dynamic layers on or off as needed. User will be able to view additional data boundaries, boundary labels and features on the map by making them visible as follows: Basemap content includes City points, Interstates, Highways, Major roads, streets, and Labels. Dynamic content such as the census boundaries (Urban Areas, Places, Congressional Districts etc) , Features layers (military installations, schools, golf courses, church etc) and their labels can be turned on and off by the user.

Search using Population Groups Enter text to look for a population group or use the population group filters Population Groups are added to “Your Selections” Search Results are updated The Population Groups Overlay allows users to initiate a search for data products by using population groups (race, ethnic and ancestry group) as the search filter criteria. The Population Group overlay displays over the search results page. Within the overlay, users can use a combination of text and filter searches to narrow population group choices. Once a selection has been made from the Population Group Results, “Your Selections” on the Search Results Page is updated. Search for data products by using population groups (race, ethnic and ancestry group) to filter search results Search by text or filters to narrow population groups Selections will narrow/refine data product search results and update “Your Selections” 9

Search using Industry Codes Enter text to look for an industry code or use the industry code filters Industry Code are added to “Your Selections” Search Results are updated The Industry Codes Overlay allows users to search for Census Data using an Industry Code (i.e., Industry, Product and/or Commodity Group). Create a Map Create a thematic map from a table Customize the map by changing colors and transparency Customize the map by selecting boundaries and features to display Change the way the data is displayed on a map by modifying the number of classes and classing method Thematic Maps A thematic map can only be created when a user has selected from the Data Product Results to view a table in the Single Product view. When the user accesses the Map View Tab from a Single Product results page or clicks the “Create a Thematic Map” button, the system displays an Interactive Table View. The Actions toolbar button, “Create a Map,” is active and the page displays instructions prompting the user to select a data value and geography type to map from the Interactive Table View. Once the user’s selections have been made a “Select a Data Value to Map” confirmation dialog box is displayed to confirm the user’s selection. The user is given the option to select the “Show Map” button or the “Cancel” button. If the “Show Map” button is selected a Map page displaying a thematic map of the user’s selected geographies for the specified geography type is displayed fully on the map.   By default thematic map will use the natural break classing method, yellow to green color gradient and the number of classes appropriate for the user geography selection. The user can change the data value parameter, geography type and the data classing method once they are viewing a thematic map. The user can also perform all basic map (navigate map, identify, change map scale, find location and place map markers) and reference map (change map content i.e. show hide features, boundaries and labels) functions on the created thematic map.
