RFQ MéCACHROME PROCESS QUALIFICATION 2 major technical phases to be tested in parallel Step1 Qualification of deep drilling and machining technic Validation of process and manufacturer capacity with his equipment Ultrasound test and tridim measurement Machining mock-up Deep drilling mock-up Step 2 Qualification of vertical brazing process Validation of manufacturer brazing process Tridim measurement and leak test Brazing mock-up IPHI B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

RFQMANUFACTURING PROCESS QUALIFICATION ALMOST FINISHED ….. Deep drilling mock-up Brazing mock-up IPHI B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

SECTION MéCACHROME PROCESS QUALIFICATION STARTED….. Step 3 Qualification of a total section manufacturing : Section 1 Leak test, tridim and RF measurement To start the series production, the step 3 must be validated Series production Sections manufacturing : process adaptation with industrial Process tracking to optimize the time Leak test, tridim and RF measurement Development plan and validation tests according to the qualification phase B. Status RFQ process validation (Mécachrome) : almost done RFQ section 1 (Mécachrome) : Started Coupler (PMB) : manufacturing process validated, couplers started Tuner: 2D and spec finalisation. Tender started RFQ support system: 2D and spec to be closed eo january: Late Section transport system: Late RFQ tuning system (Sominex, Micro-contrôle, Court SAS) : On-going Test cavity (AMD): Due before eo january Test cavity support (Norcan, Court): On-going ESS bunker set-up (CEA): On-going Cooling system (Technitub): tender signed. Decision for update needed eo january Cooling system control system (CEA): On-going Assembly process and tools: On-going …. B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

REMAINING QUESTIONS B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

Tunnel delivery and assembly Continuous work with ESS (thank you for good quality exchange with Walter, Georg, Nick…..) This exchange is necessary because there are continuous changes (good or not.) It’s not an option to implement the assembly process on the building because we need to see the interfaces, tunnel insertion, space aorund RFQ …. Simulation @ Saclay to validate strategy and tools Minimize the assembly time inside the tunnel Implantation @ Saclay RFQ support tools manutention bead pull Truck transport B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

Tunnel delivery and assembly B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

COOLING SYSTEM Cooling pipes implantation Possible changes from ESS: to decrease the distance between skid and RFQ  not easy, and final decision must be done  What is possible inside the tunnel ? Study by CEA specialist on going B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

LEBT AND MEBT INTERFACES EXAMPLE Input plate Output plate Input and ouput plate design finished. Next step will be reviewing by ESS for validation B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU

OPEN DISCUSSIONS Conditionning procedure and command control : RFQ Security (Power limitless, temperature acquisition, vacuum level to stop RFQ conditionning…) LLRF strategy : who? How? When? We have pick up on the RFQ, we need to speak with ESS what we want ESS must do with pick up information C&C We need those systems OK to start conditionning !!!!! Not only assembly process: transport from CEA Delivery storage before tunnel insertion storage inside the tunnel manutention space inside the tunnel tools….. I think we need to find time to have small private meetings during these two days to be efficient (for example RF for RFQ) B. POTTIN, A-C. CHAUVEAU
