Bill of Rights overview Proposed by Anti-federalists James Madison wrote them in 1791 First 10 amendments are called the Bill of Rights

1st Amendment

2nd Amendment We are allowed to own and carry guns for protection

3rd Amendment We do not have to house soldiers ???

4th Amendment No one can search your things without good reason

5th Amendment You do not have to speak against yourself in the court of law Why might this be helpful?

6th Amendment A quick, public trial with a jury of your peers

7th Amendment Right to a jury in a civil case as well

8th Amendment No punishment too severe or strong

9th Amendment We have other rights not listed in the Constitution

10th Amendment Any powers not listed in the Constitution belong to the people
