EURES European Employment Services Work for European Employment Service or EURES. A network linking public employment services across Europe to provide a European jobcentre service Like to talk to you today about what opportunities there are to work in Europe. www.eures.europa.eu @EURES_DWP 1

The EURES Network? The UK is part of 31 countries that make up the European Economic Area (EEA) UK and other EEA nationals have freedom of movement to live and work within any of those countries. No work permits required. EEA (European Economic Area) member countries - Living & Working Info (Portal) ‘My life on the Island has been great so far and I am really enjoying my work. I would absolutely recommend anyone seeking something new and different to look into seasonal work whether in their own country or outside. This is a great way to travel, meet new people, earn money and gain new skills.’ Seda, Jobseeker Hoxton. People from those countries have right to live and work in any of the other countries (Except Croatia) No work permits req’d – unlike countries further afield like Canada, Australia etc. 2

What support can EURES UK offer? Network of 12 EURES advisers across the UK (Over 1000 across EEA) Advice on jobs/voluntary work /exchange programmes Practical information on living in another EEA country EURES Group Information Session Advice on European Labour Market Country guides The EURES European Jobmatching Service… EURES advisers are trained specialists who provide the three basic EURES services of information, guidance and placement, to both jobseekers and employers interested in the European job market. They have developed specialised expertise in the practical, legal and administrative matters relating to mobility at national and cross-border levels. They work within the Public Employment Service of each member country, or within other partner organisations in the EURES network. Practical information on living in another EEA country Country guides Advice on European Labour Market EURES Chat – Friday 11am-12pm (The above can be found on the EURES portal)

What kind of jobs are available? You will see lots of job adverts for engineers, construction workers, doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. But there are plenty of opportunities in other sectors, too. Hospitality and tourism is a good place to start – especially if you want a seasonal contract. Teaching English as a Foreign Language is another popular option. Speaking another language can greatly increase your chances of finding work abroad, although some employers are happy to receive applications from jobseekers who only speak English. Each vacancy should clearly detail any language requirements.

The EURES job mobility portal www.eures.europa.eu The EURES Portal is the largest Job vacancy portal in Europe with over 2 million vacancies daily from around the EEA. As well as advertising vacancies the website also showcases good news stories, promotes online jobfair and provide living and working information vital for working in another member state. Jobseekers and staff can use the EURES portal to speak with EURES Advisers from across the network. The software used is very similar to the MS Lync instant message chat feature. Most countries are online to chat on Fridays and UK EURES Advisers are available every Friday between 11am – 12pm

EURES Chat Select “What Can EURES Do For You?” Then select “Chat with EURES Advisers” and select country by flag To access, click on the following: EURES services via Jobseekers tab What can EURES do for you Chat with EURES Advisers from UK and other European countries Select relevant country via country flag (times/dates etc. listed in Central European Time (CET)) Some examples of the countries that take part every Friday morning (except bank holidays) include: Denmark Sweden Norway Italy Malta Spain Portugal Poland Interested claimants can speak via the text box to a locally based EURES Adviser about their employment prospects, specific enquiries if they have them or more general living and working information. Germany They do not currently take part in EURES Chat but they have their own similar service “Make it in Germany” operating Monday – Friday. WE CAN TAKE A QUICK TRIP AROUND THIS SITE IN REAL TIME, JUST TO SHOW YOU HOW VERY EASY IT IS TO NAVIGATE AND USE.

This is currently how Germany offer a similar service to EURES Chat and is in fact more comprehensive, given that it is available five days a week 8am – 2pm (GMT). For any claimant interested in relocating and working in Germany, this site “Make It In Germany” is a must!

European Job Days Every year EURES organises a number of European Job Days across Europe to support recruitment in vital employment sectors. Check out www.europeanjobdays.eu to participate online in presentations and job interviews via webcam.

EURES Drop’pin – Youth Opportunities Access European Internships / Traineeship Opportunities This is mostly a signposting service but there can be some interesting internship / apprenticeship roles available on there. WE HAVE ANOTHER SHORT VIDEO THAT WILL QUICKLY SHOW YOU AROUND THIS FUNCTION.

The European Jobmatch Service We offer personal support to suitable Graduates looking to work in Europe. Graduates receive: 1-2-1 advice and guidance on living and working abroad Support in finding the right job Regular contact to discuss progress on job search and opportunities What we expect To be serious about moving to another country to work To be in a position to take up a job offer To be responsive to any correspondence – whether by phone, text or email 10

Referral Process Refer to Lorraine.morris1@dwp.gsi.gov.uk “I am moving to Greece to start a new chapter in my life. If you are looking for a fresh start then this is something to do! I would advise anybody to do it even if you don’t have the experience.” Jamie, Birmingham. These are the opportunities to refer claimant to . You can read more about Jamie in the latest copy of the EURES Newsletter which can be found on the EURES Intranet Homepage. Jamie Jamie had been claiming Universal Credit at Birmingham South West Jobcentre for just less than two months. He had always wanted to work abroad and following a change in his personal circumstances, the time was right for him to pursue his dream. ‘I thought at this point, why not, new year new start!’ His work coach referred Jamie to EURES. Soon after Jamie secure a position with Mastercard in Greece: 11
