Time Management Tips for Students

Use a planner, assignment notebook and/or a calendar Record your daily assignments and activities Also keep track of those that are more long term

Keep a monthly calendar Identify all activities, clubs/organizations in which you regularly participate Log practice schedules, meetings, special events Develop a homework/study schedule around these activities

Establish goals for each course Use goals to determine priorities for various tasks and assignments

Prioritize tasks or assignments Divide tasks into three categories: Needs to be done today Can wait until the first group of tasks is finished Can wait until a later day/time

Identify an optimal study time based on: Personal preferences Activities and responsibilities

Estimate how long each task will take Write down your estimate and actual completion time and compare Task estimation will improve allowing you to be more realistic in setting aside time to complete tasks

Stay focused Stick with your schedule and priorities

Be flexible Unexpected events will require adjustments Adjust your priorities and allow for completion of the most important tasks first

Include time for a break Scheduled activities don’t count ‘Break’ time should be an unscheduled opportunity to unwind

Time management Learned behavior that can be Improved through practice
