TELL Colorado 32
What is “TELL Colorado” ? TELL Colorado is a statewide survey of school-based educators to assess teaching and learning conditions at the school, district and state levels. The state’s education leaders want to ensure that every Colorado educator has the supportive environment necessary to help students achieve at the highest levels!
About the Survey Process Fourth administration of biennial survey opens Wed, Feb 11 through Mon, March 9. Established in 2008 through HB 08-1384 (CRS 22-2-503) to assess school-level teaching and learning conditions across state. All school-based licensed educators have the opportunity to participate via an online survey. It is voluntary and anonymous. Intent is to spur conversations and inform improvement efforts at the school, district and state levels. CDE works with partner organizations, including Governor’s Office, CASE, CEA, CASB, League of Charter Schools. New Teacher Center selected to provide expert guidance, survey administration and data analysis.
Areas Assessed on the TELL Survey 20-30 Minute perception survey with “yes/no” and “Likert scale” questions. Unit of analysis is school. Data available at school and district levels. Minimal demographic information for individuals to strengthen confidentiality. Participation threshold of 50% of respondents (n=at least 5). Constructs include Time Facilities and Resources Community Engagement and Support Managing Student Conduct Teacher Leadership School Leadership Professional Development Instructional Practices and Supports New Teacher Support 35
What We Have Learned from the TELL Survey… Overall, Colorado educators are very positive about school conditions! Time is consistently the biggest challenge. Sense of efficacy and support from leadership affects teacher attrition more than other factors (e.g., salary). Effective induction support and mentoring is not systematically available to novice educators. The construct with the strongest relationship to student performance is community involvement and support.
For Additional Information Each eligible educator should have received a letter with a unique code to access the survey. Visit the survey website: www.tellcolorado.org If educators have questions or do not have a code, contact the Help Desk: helpdesk@tellcolorado.org or 1-866-301-2454, ext 13. Phone lines are open 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the survey window.

Student Interchange – English Learner edits 49
Student Interchange – English Learner Edits For Student October 2014, there were several English Learner (EL) edits (on next slide) that were not working correctly Problem fixed towards the end of or following Student October 2014 The errors fixed during Student October were temporarily set to Warnings (as it was close to the conclusion of the collection) Now returned to Errors What this means to you: You may have new EL errors needing resolving for SEY 2014-15 One good reason to start loading SEY now – so you are not rushed later in resolving these Please code correctly (vs. coding to bypass resolving errors) and request exceptions as needed 50
