Gluten is a protein that is found in barley, wheat, rye, and oats and is what helps food maintain their shape. When a person is gluten-intolerant it means that their metabolism prevents them from digesting this protein, giving them gluten-allergies or even causing celiac disease. When a person has either of these two medical problems they will often require a special diet that is free of the many gluten-containing foods and grains. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and for many who have to eat a gluten-free breakfast this eliminates common breakfast foods like bagels, toast, and cereal. When these breakfast foods have to be eliminated it makes it hard for them to have a healthy breakfast.

Fortunately, many manufactures of food are now making gluten free breakfast foods such as cereals. A person that has to eat gluten-free foods can also eat eggs and fruit, even energy bars and smoothies. Yes, these foods can be more expensive but there are ways to make inexpensive breakfasts that are gluten-free.

Examples of foods for a gluten-free breakfast can include:   Eggs, which can be poached, made into an omelet that is filled with vegetables and cheese, or scrambled Cottage cheese Yogurt Milk Fruits, including juices Standard breakfast meats like ham, bacon, or sausage can also be added to the omelet
