We are on a journey together, and together we will celebrate all of their success, both large and small throughout the year. First Thought

We are a diverse community of families, experiences, and backgrounds Family Events If you have a family holiday or religious event which falls outside of the CB calendar, please let me know. We are a diverse community of families, experiences, and backgrounds We will work very hard to embrace our differences to make us collectively stronger

Consistently doing their best work: Work Habits Our Six (6) Words Challenging Practice Cooperation Mistake Effort Listening Consistently doing their best work: Asking for help Participating in class and small group discussions Being able to work independently and with a group on common tasks Following the classroom routine

Must Do’s: Reading/Math facts May Do’s: Spelling/Study/other Homework As a building, Mill Creek has aligned our homework practices with best practices and current research. Our goal(s) are to bring flexibility to students and families, while providing choices that are important and meaningful to all third graders. Must Do’s: Reading/Math facts May Do’s: Spelling/Study/other You Choose too--

Your child will have a folder which contains the following: Math Your child will have a folder which contains the following: A list of skills/big ideas for the unit Daily practice slips or “entry tickets” Activities practiced on their own All may and should be used to review, practice, and explore leading up to each assessment

Knowing those math facts… It’s an important component to learning and becoming proficient in math computation and problem solving Online resources (websites, Xtramath) Apps Traditional flash cards **It needs to become a regular routine in your child’s weekly homework USE WHAT WORKS FOR YOUR CHILD Math facts practice will be an important part of e-weekly online math homework (XtraMath)

Reading and writing go together to show proficiency Another transition for third graders is adding more opportunities to write responses to demonstrate reading skills/strategies (Across the curriculum) Complete sentences, purposeful vocabulary, and connecting ideas are the targeted goal. We are learning to read and reading to learn throughout the year.
