Homework This will be given out each Friday and should be returned to school by the following Monday. It will usually comprise of Maths or English and Spellings. Sometimes it will be connected to other curriculum areas. There will be a spelling test every Friday morning. Spelling books have changed. The children will be given a homework book to keep all their work together. Reading regularly with and questioning children about their home reading books remains important. We recommend at least 10 minutes a night. Home reading booklets have changed.

Behaviour Class rules The children have compiled their own set of class rules. They are displayed in the classroom for us to refer to. Golden rules These are whole school rules. High expectations across the school All staff follow the golden rules across the school to ensure consistent excellent behaviour at all times. We are using the Good to Be Green system. School council There are 2 school council representatives from each class. The school council meet regularly to discuss ways in which they can improve their school environment.

Trips / Outings Trips All trips support our learning across the curriculum. If you would like to help out on a trip please see your class teacher. Extra help Parents often volunteer to come into school and listen to children read. Parents who help long term are CRB checked by the school. Parents who are not CRB checked are not left alone with children at any time. If you are free to help and have any particular interests, please let me know.

Medicine All medicine must be brought into school with the prescription label clearly displayed, and relevant paper work filled in at the office. Staff are able to administer medicine only if it has been prescribed by a GP. Please ensure ongoing medicines, e.g. ‘asthma pumps’ are checked regularly to ensure they are in date.

Our School Partners Dorset Road is a part of The Spring Partnership Trust; Hayes Primary, St Mary Cray Primary School and Castlecombe Primary are also part of the trust. Jo Brinkley is our Executive Headteacher. Jo leads the Spring Partnership Trust and is also responsible for Hayes Primary, St Mary Cray Primary and Castlecombe. In Summer 2016, our children achieved above National standards in Reading, Writing and Maths and the school is continuing to thrive.

New Curriculum New National Curriculum introduced to raise standards. Currently teaching the National Curriculum through Cornerstones curriculum – exciting topic work which we hope will engage and motivate our children. Power of Reading

Changes to assessment No more levels No longer grading children on 2a, 2b, 2c criteria. Either ‘At expected’ standard, ‘Below expected’ or working in ‘Greater depth’. Teachers will be sharing with parents what children can do and where gaps are in their learning rather than talking about levels. National test for children towards end of Y2 to be used in conjunction with teacher assessment.

Year 2 transfer to Junior school Available to apply early September 2016, closing date January 15th 2016 Every child is guaranteed a Year 3 place at Castlecombe Primary. All Year 2 parents will receive a leaflet with full details of application procedure in Autumn term. Details of school open days will be sent out to all Year 2 parents.

Any questions?
