Presentation transcript:

1-5-17 1. Which lab tool would you use to measure liquids precisely? 2. What is the dip in the liquid called?

Standards and Objectives GLE 0607.Inq.2- How can you use appropriate tools and techniques to gather, organize, analyze, and interpret data. Students will complete the lab tools matching game with a 90% accuracy by the end of the lesson. I can accurately identify lab tools and their purposes.

Tweezers and Forceps For plucking or handling small objects.

Wire Gauze To protect the bottom of a beaker flask from flame.

Let’s take a quick pop quiz! 1. What lab tool is used as a fuel source to heat things? 2. What would you use to protect your eyes during a lab activity. 3. You may call it a eye dropper, but what is the scientific term for this lab tool?

Spring Scale Used to measure weight or force.

Test Tube Rack Used to hold one or more test tubes.

Test Tube Holder For holding an individual test tube.

Glass Stirring Rod Used to mix or stir substances.

Lets pause

Triple Beam Balance Used to measure precise weight or mass.

Flasks We learned about these yesterday. Flasks are narrow mouthed containers. They can come in two different shapes as shown in these pictures. Erlenmeyer Flask-Used for carrying chemicals. Florence Flask-Used for heating chemicals.

Beaker Tongs For removing and holding a hot beaker.

Ring Stand/Clamp Clamp-Holds a flask, test tube, or beaker. Platform-Holds the heading unit Pole-Holds the clamps.

Test Tube Brush For cleaning the inside of a test tube.

Summarizer Complete the matching game in your groups. Turn in the completed sheet.

1-6-17 With your group, continue working on the matching activity. When you have finished, turn your chart paper in.

Let’s Review With your group, take about five minutes to review for your quiz. We will go over the information once more as a class as well.

Quiz Do not write on the test. Using your own answer sheet, complete the quiz. Talking=Cheating “Look up for inspiration, down for desperation, but don’t look side to side for information…..or across.”- Ms. Hill
