Spring Term Class Information Year 6 Who are the adults in our class? Class teacher- Mrs Owens Teaching assistants- Miss Jones Mrs Martin will cover PPA time on a Wednesday afternoon What are we learning about this term? Our topic this half term will be ‘chocolate’, this will embed all of our learning across the subjects. In literacy lessons we will be working on persuasion, by writing a persuasive letter to Mr Wonka to buy our chocolate bars to creating an advertising campaign. In topic lessons we will create a brand new chocolate bar. We will complete market research and think about profit margins and target audience. Further to this we will learn about fair-trade, the journey of the bean to the bar and use Google maps to locate all the countries that produce cocoa beans. In maths we will compare seven digit figures, complete fraction and decimal equivalents, and learn about prime numbers and factors. Our week in school and things to remember: PE is on a Monday Times table test Monday Spelling test on a Friday Reading/library books to be signed out of class library and taken home as often as possible. Important dates this term: Week beginning Monday 23rd January- Parents evening week Monday 6th-8th February- Nant BH Tuesday 7th February- Safer Internet Day Friday 17th February- Finish for half term Monday 27th February- Back to school. ‘Fair trade fortnight’ begins. Monday 27th February- All Around Wales day. Wednesday 1st March- St David’s day Eisteddfod. Coffee mornings Tuesday 21st March- Year 5 Thursdday 23rd March- Year 6 Tuesday 28th March- Year 4 Thursday 30th March- Year 3 Tuesday 4th April- Year 1 Thursday 6th April- Year 2 Friday 7th April- End of term Homework A formal piece of maths and literacy homework will be given out on a Thursday and will be expected back in on Wednesday at the latest. The homework I provide will be a follow on of what we have been working on in class that week to embed the skills learnt.
