Classifying Quadrilaterals Chapter 6-1 Classifying Quadrilaterals

Example Automobile General Motors Vehicle Chevrolet Car Malibu If it is a Chevrolet car is it necessarily a Malibu? If it is a Malibu is it a General Motors vehicle?

Parallelogram A quadrilateral where opposite sides are parallel and opposite angles congruent

Rhombus A quadrilateral with opposite sides parallel, opposite angles congruent, and all sides are congruent. Also the diagonals bisect each other at 90 degree angles

Rectangle A quadrilateral where the opposite sides are parallel and congruent. All angles are 90 degrees. Also diagonals are congruent

Square A rectangle where all sides are congruent. Also diagonals are equal and intersect at 90 degree angles

Kite Quadrilateral with two sets of adjacent sides congruent, but opposite sides are not congruent.

Trapezoid A quadrilateral with exactly one set of parallel lines. Isosceles trapezoid is when the two non-parallel sides are congruent

Plotting Points Distance Formula: Slope:
