Parents’ Information Evening KS2 SATs 2017

Background Formal tests for 7, 11 and 14 year olds were introduced in 1998. Age 14 – Now abolished. Science – stopped in 2009. Unions calling for them to be abolished – and replaced by TA but both labour and conservatives have said they are here to stay. We don’t know!

Rationale The Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests are designed to test pupils' knowledge and understanding of specific elements of the Key Stage 2 programmes of study. They provide a snapshot of a pupil's attainment at the end of the key stage, in Maths and English.

End of Key Stage 2 Assessment All pupils will receive a teacher assessment judgement for Reading, Writing, Grammar/Punctuation/Spelling (SPAG), Maths and Science. All pupils will receive KS2 National Curriculum test results in Maths, Reading and SPAG. At the end of Key Stage 2, teacher assessment judgements for English, mathematics and science are reported with the Key Stage 2 national curriculum test results.

Which Pupils Take the Tests? All Year 6 pupils will take the tests, unless they are working well below the level of the Year 6 curriculum.

How are the Results Reported to Parents? The government abolished ‘levels’ in 2015. Your child’s results will be converted into scaled scores to allow them to be compared to national results. Scaled scores will range from 80 to 120. There is no longer a Level 6 extension paper. Give out the overview that I sent home after parents evening

How are the Results Reported to Parents? The scale will be set so that a score of 100 will indicate that your child is working at the expected standard for the end of Key Stage 2. The threshold differs from subject to subject…

How are the Results Reported to Parents? 2016 Thresholds: Reading: 21 / 50 = 100 Maths: 60 / 110 = 100 SPAG: 43 / 70 = 100
