Presentation transcript:

Knowing Jesus as King, Priest & Prophet Jesus has been anointed by God to serve in the three high offices: King, Priest and Prophet. It is critical that Christians understand His functions in these exalted positions. Matthew 22 * Psalm 110

Jesus the King Psalm 110:1-2 David’s “Lord” would be exalted by the LORD David’s descendent would be the Messiah (Matthew 12:23; 2 Samuel 7:12-13; Jeremiah 23:5; Isaiah 11:1-2; Psalm 89) The New Testament uses Psalm 110 to describe Jesus’ exalted position Jesus is at God’s right hand (Acts 2:27-35) He is superior to angels (Hebrews 1:13) He is over all things (1 Cor. 15:27-28)

Jesus the Priest Psalm 110:5 Jesus was selected by God (Heb. 5:4-10) He has entered God’s presence for us (Hebrews 6:19-20) His priesthood is after the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 7:1-25) Combines offices of priest and king A continual priesthood Superior to the Levitical priesthood

Jesus the Prophet Deuteronomy 18:18-19 The Jews were expecting “the Prophet” (Mark 6:15; John 6:14) Jesus is that Prophet (Acts 3:22-23) God speaks in and through Christ (Hebrews 1:1-2; John 12:49-50; 1:1, 14, 18)
