Edit Assignment Details – Due Date Due Date : the date and time when the assignment is due. Note: If you do not set a time, default is 11:59 pm for the course time zone.

Edit Assignment Details – Availability Dates (lockout dates) If you want to create a date range for student to view and submit and assignment, you can set availability dates. Available From: date and time when the assignments become available Until: the date and time when students can no longer access the assignment Note: if you leave your availability dates blank, the assignment can be viewed throughout the entire course, allowing students to resubmit assignments throughout the semester.

Scenarios : Using Due Dates & Availability Dates Together Open Assignment Scenario: Keep an assignment open throughout the entire course, do not set availability dates. Example: you want students to be able to view and submit he assignment at any time but reward those who submit by the due date. Note: In the Gradebook Canvas will inform you of late submissions

Scenarios : Using Due Dates & Availability Dates Together Limit Submission Start Date Scenario: Keep students from submitting an assignment until a specific date, set an Available From date. Example: you set an assignment as due on Sept 19 at 11:59pm, but you do not want students to submit the assignment until Sept 9, set the Available From date as Sept 9. Note: Canvas automatically opens and students can start submitting assignments on Sept 9, Canvas will still notify you of Late Submissions in the Gradebook

Scenarios : Using Due Dates & Availability Dates Together Limit Submission End Date Scenario: Allow students to submit an assignment until a specific date, set an Until Date (lock assignment after end date) No Late Submissions: If you do not want any Late Submissions set the Due Date as the same date as the Until date. Allow Late Submissions: Example, allow students to submit up to three days late after due date, set the Until date to three days later.

Peer Review Assignments – Instructor View In Edit Details you can select Peer Reviews Automatically: Students are not assigned a review until they have submitted their own assignment. Manually: Students can complete their assigned peer reviews without having to submit their own assignment first.
