Reflecting on the course Skills audit and personal action plan Session 7 Reflecting on the course Skills audit and personal action plan Show us your skills Your support network

Learning outcomes for this session At the completion of this session, you will: Know: what types of support are most relevant to you, in your HE journey. how to access those supports at Chisholm. Be able to: identify your current skills and future requirements. Develop your own ‘action plan’ for success in HE.

Personal skills audit and action plan What skills do you already have, that will also be useful in the HE environment? Which skills do you want to develop? (Name and prioritise) Develop an action plan (pg. 50) The Study Skills Handbook 1. Pages 44-50: ‘Personal skills development planning’

Show us your skills The best way to develop, is to practice! Activity: Practise your skills, provide feedback to classmates and receive their feedback in return

Your support network What sort of help do you need, to get you through your first semester? (And where will you find it?) Help with maths? (???) Help with assignments: researching and referencing? (Library) Help with assignments: developing your academic writing? (YourTutor; Learning Skills Drop Ins) Help with your English language skills? (???) Help finding your way around campus, or getting to know people? (Mentors) Life happens Sometime during your course (maybe now? Maybe later?) you might need other types of help. Make a plan for where you can find it, so that you’re prepared for whatever life throws at you. Financial advice? Counselling? Etc Discuss with your class and decide what YOU need: fill out the personal support network template.

Who else is in your support network? Make sure you have the contact details (email addresses, phone numbers if you want to supply these) of: The people you have met in this course Your mentor
