Positive Environmental impact of ZVW30- Toyota Prius… Figure 1 – Toyota Prius, December 2010

Design of Prius… Fuel efficiency Vs Others… The key to such a success of economical car is due to Excellent design of ‘Electric motor’ that provides more horse power which gives higher torque (Wikipedia, Toyota Prius 2010). ‘Electric water pump’ where it works without the use of belts (Wikipedia, Toyota Prius 2010). ‘Weight redemption’ where Prius has reduced the overall size of the car by 20% to save more energy (Toyota-press, June 2010). It emits 37% less CO2 compare to other petrol or diesel cars (Toyota-press, June 2010). From calculation, Prius costs £942 for 10,000 miles compare to Renault Laguna that cost (10,000 / 37.2) x 4.546 x 1.25) = £1527. 85% of material are recyclable including battery and 95% of it’s material are recoverable. WOW!!!

Can we apply the design of Hybrid to other things? Air transport contributes 38% of CO2 emission towards global warming. ‘Boeing 737-80’ is successfully using the idea of hybrid, where it is able to cruise at approximately 100 kilometres per hour (62 miles per hour) on power from the fuel cell (Wikipedia, Boeing 2010). Brand image and business loss… It was Thursday, February 2010 when Toyota Prius first took it’s brand image bashing news from BBC News… Received 124 reports from drivers about the issue, including four of crashes. Recalled 436000 Hybrid cars. Overall eight millions of cars were recalled worldwide including hybrid cars. Toyota confirmed a record loss of 1.8 billion pound excluding the cost of Hybrid cars. (BBC News, February 2010) Ouch!!!

Buyer’s disappointment! This is what one customer had to say: It is incredibly dangerous. I have had a couple of near misses. There was only one thing on everyone’s mouth? Buyer’s disappointment! And more: “luckily there were no cars directly in front of me, however, it was highly disconcerting and of course could have been dangerous”. (Toyota blog, February 2010)

Conclusion Advantages Efficient Economical Environmental friendly
