Review, Reflection, Planning & Transition Show title and say about the session being concerned with the link between ILP and the process of learning Independent Learning Plans Donna Wood

The purpose of this session This session looks at: The rationale and practice associated with review, reflection and planning How this relates to individual learning plans What an ILP might look like There are three key areas to be covered about the relationship between ILP and student success

Consider the guidance process Why bother? Questions that people ask… What is this all about? Is it really necessary and how does it help? What’s in it for me (students, tutors, parents) Is an ILP an answer Suggest some possibilities of a rationale for linking ILPEG and the benefits that may be achieved for the college, for staff and last but not least, the students

Know thyself What’s this all about? ‘In guidance we should be concerned not with helping individuals to make wise decisions but with helping them to make decisions wisely’ Martin Katz Know thyself What is guidance about? Is it telling people how, why or when? Or is it about empowering young people to take responsibility for their academic life and lifestyle choices and how ILP can help with this.

The five selves that need consideration Personal Academic Emotional Behavioural Vocational Effective guidance will help students take control and deal constructively with the variety of factors influencing their personal, educational and vocational development Introduce this slide and give the audience an opportunity to discuss with each other how their organisation recognises and provides guidance for each of the five selves. Is any of this co-ordinated in any way?
