SWBAT I will be able to explain and recognize the Golden Mean. I will be able to identify scale and proportion in artworks. I will be able to create a piece of artwork that reflects correct human proportions. I will be able to incorporate visual arts vocabulary in context.

Proportion Proportion is the principle of art concerned with the size relationship of one part to another.

Pythagoras The ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras found that he could apply mathematical equations to both geometric and musical tones.

Euclid and Ratios Euclid, a Greek mathematician, discovered what he considered a perfect ratio, or relationship of one part to another.

The Golden Mean A line divided into two parts so that the smaller line has the same proportion, or ratio, to the larger line as the larger line has to the hole line. In math, this ratio is written 1:1.6. The Golden Rectangle has sides that matched this ratio.

Da Vinci  Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man is based on human proportions and geometry.

Sketchbook: Sugar Skulls Sugar skulls are tradition for celebrating the Day of the Dead Design a sugar skull using correct proportions.
